The Convict That Tried To Eat His Way Out Of The Death Penalty

This is it! Hudson Valley Horror Month (plus) comes to an end this Sunday! For the grand finale, we’re headed down to Mahopac in Putnam County! You won’t believe this one. In 1952, escaped convict, Donald Synder, took a young girl hostage as the police were closing in on him. In the midst of a standoff, he murdered that girl. He was later found guilty and sentenced to death. What happens next is bizarre. Synder hatches a plan to get his death sentence, by electric chair, commuted to life in prison. How you ask? By eating his way out of it!! That’s right, Synder balloned up to well over 300lbs during his stay in prison. A far cry from the 150lbs he went in at!! Did this violent criminal’s plan work? We’ll tell you all about it!

The Woman In Black of Rhinebeck, NY

Ep 66: “The Woman in Black” of Rhinebeck, NY. We have a new, albeit short, episode coming tomorrow night! Hudson Valley Horror Month rolls on with a twisted tale from the late 19th Century. It seems that in 1893, a very tall, thin, and cryptic looking woman was seen wandering the streets of Rhinebeck from dusk to dawn. Although she never spoke a word to anyone she encountered, she evoked fear in the entire village. One would say this is obviously folklore, but is it? Many trusted business owners, teachers, and constables of Rhinebeck confirmed having seen this dark figure. The word was spread through local media outlets. The NY Herald ran a story about the woman and her freakish behaviors. The identity of the woman in black remains unsolved to this very day.

Albert Fentress : Teacher Turned Cannibal

In 1979, Fentress tortured and murdered 18yr old high school student, Paul Masters. Unbelievably, a year later, in 1980, Fentress was found not guilty by reason of insanity. The Abandoned Kempton Park Hospital

This week we head to South Africa to discuss the bizarre happenings that surround the abandoned Kempton Park Hospital. Once touted as the best hospital in the country, the hospital abruptly stopped accepting patients on the day after Christmas in 1996. To make matters worse, it permanently closed its doors ta few months later. As if that wasn’t bizarre enough, they left behind millions of dollars in medical equipment, vital patient records…..and even (brace yourselves) bodily organs left behind in jars. Things only got more disturbing as time moved on. What could possibly have happened that would make this facility abruptly close its doors? We might have an idea!

 In 1964, Jim Templeton took a photo of his daughter. Once the photos were developed, it was revealed that there was a bizarre being standing directly behind his daughter. He insisted that he did not see anyone present when the photograph was taken!! He had the photo analyzed and it was determined to be authentic. Plenty of theories abound. Could this just be an innocent passerby or perhaps something out of this world. You might be surprised by our findings!
